CERTIFICATION – EVALUATION

  • Is my language proficiency certificate recognized by employers and universities?

Our certificate courses are designed in accordance with international learning standards and proficiency levels. This is to say that the learning outcomes delivered via each level at the DES put you on par with a learner of the same level anywhere else in the world. However, some employers and universities may insist on an additional official score via an international exam. For example, just as English speakers in India have to produce an official IELTS/TOEFL score for employment/studies in an English-speaking country, it is in your interests to also get an international accreditation for the desired level via the proficiency exams conducted by the Goethe Institut (Max Mueller Bhavans) for German, Instituto Cervantes for Spanish, Alliance Française for French, etc. Upon successful completion of each level at DES, you will have the required proficiency to appear for these exams. Your course instructor will advise you if you are interested in obtaining an international proficiency score. Most universities/employers ask for a B1/B2-level proficiency.

  • What is the mode of evaluation? Is attendance compulsory?

Our language courses are designed to ensure proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills along all learning levels. Evaluation is based on class participation, performance in class tests, and the final exam. You will be evaluated (cumulative) based on all the four components – listening, speaking, reading, and writing – which will be mentioned in the certificate from the DES (Manipal Academy of Higher Education) upon completion of the course. As class presence is a criterion for the final evaluation, an attendance of 75% is necessary.
